About the Artists :

Ahsan Ali was born in a traditional musical family associated with Kirana Gharana. Since he was seven years old, he was being trained by his father, Ustad Asif Ali khan. He has already performed in several music festivals in India and overseas (The Sufi Gospel band lead by the singer Sonam Kalra among others). Besides being an “A’’ grade artist from All India Radio, Ahsan Ali is a singer and composer. In order to promote his instrument, he has settled up his own Sarangi project called the Ahsan Ali & The Sarangi Sutra.

Lise Moulet is a French dancer and choreographer that specialises in North Indian (Kathak) and Persian dance. A great part of her present work showcases the shared dance traditions between the two regions. She collaborates regularly with different music ensembles and dance companies such as Delhi Dance Theatre and World Ethnic Music Ensemble. She recently performed during the Jaipur Literature Festival (2016) and was a speaker and performer at the TEDx Janpath in New Delhi in 2015.

Kurdish-Iranian percussionist Fakhroddin Ghaffari has mastery over several Persian and Middle Eastern percussion instruments including his main instrument, the Iranian Tombak, as well as the Egyptian Darbuka, the Kurdish Daf and the Turkish Doumbek. Fakhroddin has performed and collaborated with top musicians from all over India. He has shared the stage with artists such as Abida Parveen and Hansraj Hans.

Amaan Ali belongs to a famous family of musicians. He is the son of sarangi maestro Ustad Ghulam Sabir Khan and was initiated on tabla by Ustad Manju Khan. Amaan received several distinctions for his art and is a Gold Medalist of All India Radio (2002). He has accompanied many eminent artists (Smt. Shubha Mugdal, Begum Abida Parveen, Ustad Sabir Khan) in India and around the world. He was invited to teach tabla for 6 months in Bhavan’s International School in Singapore and worked with the National Theatre of Korea as part of a cultural exchange program. Today he is among the most demanded young tabla players in Delhi.

Background : [InChorus] is a cycle of musical meetings organised by the Alliance Française de Delhi and the Kalasetu organization for the promotion of South Asian traditional Performing Arts and exchanges between Indian and French artists.
[InChorus] offers a platform for creation dedicated to young promising musicians, of all genres, settled in India and France through residencies, concerts and workshops. We encourage talented Indian musicians to take part in the development of a musical project or to strengthen an already existing collaboration with a French (or European) artist.
[InChorus] invites the musicians to display their work during a public performance in the auditorium of Alliance Française de Delhi. The first part of the programme will be dedicated to the Indian artist, followed, in the second part, by a restitution of his collaboration with his French counterpart.

About the Organization : Kalasetu
Kalasetu is an Indo-french organization established by musicians and anthropologists passionate about Indian Performing Arts. Kalasetu aims to bring together artists, scholars and a large audience to appreciate and encourage the transmission and the performance of artistic expressions from South Asia, in India and in France.
