Event Description : MUSIC / DANCE 'Strings N Steps Festival 2017' An international event of Indian Classical Music and Dance to celebrate its 6th Glorious year !
'Strings N Steps' is ready to set the ball rolling and its time for our followers to save the dates, time & Venue : 20th March at Stein auditorium, India Habitat Centre and on 21st March at Azad Bhawan, Indian Council For Cultural Relations.
The genesis of the name of the festival has a story of its own. Kathak dancer Sangeeta Majumder named this festival as ‘Strings N Steps’ after her ‘Kathak-Hawaiian Guitar Duet concept’, a performance with the Hawaiian guitar player Neel Ranjan Mukherjee. The innovative idea of presenting Kathak with a stringed instrument was perceived alongside the birth of ‘Strings N Steps International Festival of Indian Classical Music & Dance’, in 2013.
'Strings N Steps', a young organization of performing artists dedicated to promote Global Music and Dance is stepping into its 6th glorious year. Since 2016, the festival committee started conferring the ‘Strings N Steps Global Award’ to those artists and personalities, who have made noteworthy contributions in the field of Indian classical music and dance. This year we are honored to present the award to Shri Amarendra Khatua (Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs & Director General, ICCR), Pandit Dev Banraj (Eminent Vocalist), Pandit Prateek Chaudhuri (Sitar Maestro), Gaurie Dwivedi (Odissi Exponent).
The ‘Strings N Steps Magazine’, an online magazine, focusing on Indian Classical music and dance will be launched during this festival featuring Pt. Debu Chaudhuri (Living legend of Sitar) Vidushi Shovana Narayan (Kathak Exponent), Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumder (Sarod Maestro), Pt. Debashish Bhattacharya (Indian slide Guitar Maestro), Pt. Dev Bansraj (Renowned Vocalist from Canada), and Prof. Stephen Slawek (Famous Sitarist from Austin, Texas).
We stand resolute to spread cultural and social awareness to every corner of our society. We also carry dance and music to the deprived and poor through workshops, linking schools and educational institutes and NGOs. We are establishing a pan-Indian reach with support from many well wishers and artists. This year we have the children from HUDC a nationally recognized NGO as our special invitee.
In 2016, the Strings N Steps Festival went international by inviting artists from Argentina. In 2017 Edition of the festival, 'The Country In Focus' is Canada. This year's fiesta will witness the performances by Pandit Prateek Chaudhuri (Sitar), Ustad Akram Khan(Tabla), Pandit Dave Bansraj (Semi-Classical Vocal, Canada), Dave Bansraj Jr. (Tabla, Canada), Zaira Ann Ramkissoon (Canada), 'Strings N Steps' by Neel Ranjan Mukherjee(Hawaiian Guitar), Sangeeta Majumder (Kathak Dancer), Himanshu Dutt (Flute), Zuheb Ahmed Khan (Tabla), Zaki Ahmed (Vocal), Mrs. Anupam Mahajan (Ex-Dean, University of Delhi), Vidushi Saroja Vaidyanathan (Bharatnatyam Exponent).
