Gunijan Sabha – Verse 20
Ms. Shabana Dagar, President of Ustad Imamuddin Khan Dagar Indian Music Art & Culture Society and The Dagar Archives presents Gunijan Sabha Verse 20 – “The Art of Afghan Robab”. A performance of and interaction with Ud. Daud Khan Sadozai, Eminent Robab Player from Germany. He will be accompanied by Sh. Sabir Hussain on Tabla.
The event will be moderated by eminent Musicologist Smt. Manjula Saxena.
Thru interaction, we will understand the deeper aspects of his music and inner cores of his personality.
About the Artist : Ud. Daud Khan Sadozai, was born in Kabul/Afghanistan in 1955. He studied Robab from Ustad Muhammad Umar. Ud. Daud Khan is trying to preserve the authentic style of his aster’s school. Daud Khan has also studied the Sarod from great Sarod Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan in India.
Now a resident of Germany, Ud. Daud Khan is frequently performing all over Europe and participating in international music-festivals such as
- 1992-Weltfestival der Laute, Alte Oper Frankfurt,
- 1998-Nacht der Mogule, Staatl. Museum für Völkerkunde in München,
- 2002-Burgkonzert in Borgo e Rocca Meddioevale bei Rom,
- 2003-12° Festival Musicale del Mediterraneo –via della Seta „Seidenstrasse“-in Genua,
- 2003-Burgfestival Bertradaburg,
- 2003-Torino Settembre musica-Musikfestival Turin.
- USA-Tour September 2005,
- 2006 Festival de France etc.
- He performed live in the German TV and radio-programms.
- In India he was honored twice with the Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan Award (1988/1995).
About the Organization: Scion of the Dagar Gharana, Shree Alimuddin khan Dagar Sahab founded “Ustad Imamuddin khan Dagar Indian Music Art & Culture Society” in 1978. Since then this society is working for enhancement of music, art & culture. Ms. Shabana Dagar and her brother Mr. Imran Dagar are governing the society activities for last 14 years. They belong to the 20th Generation of the Dagar Family. They are the grand children of late Vidwan Ustad Imamuddin Khan Dagar, exponent of Dagarvani Dhrupad Gharana.
Under the auspices of the society, in year 2009, Shabana Ji and Imran Ji established “The Dagar Archives”. This is the first archive of Dagar Family. It is located on 2nd floor of Ravindra Manch. The archives presents the history of Dagars and hosts rare recordings, rare pictures, Artifacts and many more rarities associated with Dagar family.
The society also supports research work. Two students have completed their PhD research work in music under the auspices of the Society and the Dagar Archives.
The society conducts cultural events and Classical music concerts in Jaipur, Delhi and other cities. In Delhi so far, the society has conducted 10 verses of Gunijan Sabha, which focuses on performance and dialogue with artists from different art fields.
