Details : Alumni of LSR (ELSAs as we are known) create a wave, a change wherever we go. Whether corporates or government, academics or entrepreneurs...and so many doing such great work in the social sector and working on issues like Health, Disability, AIDS, Education, Child Trafficking, Environment, Human Rights, Animal Welfare, Empowerment...you name it and they are there to help, support and nurture society. There are many ELSAs who are doing stellar work for the community across the country - in the true spirit of ELSA’s...we make a difference wherever we go!
One of objectives of the ELSA Alumni Association is to organize and promote activities with civic or charitable and such other similar objectives related to the empowerment and education of women, human resource development, socio-cultural and economic issues that impact women and society at large.
A beginning was made on 10th September 2016, where the focus of discussion was on women leadership with social responsibility and what each one of us could do to “Drive Social Change through Empowerment of Women” – this being the motto of the ELSA Alumni Association.
It is with this objective that the 1st ELSA NGO Mela – ELSA Stronger Together, Engaging Leaders for Social Responsibility.
By holding this exhibition, we want to provide the ELSAs, working in the social sector, a forum for showcasing their work and ensuring that the rest of the community knows their amazing contribution.
There will be approximately 45 organizations participating in the ELSA NGO Mela, working on diverse issues. Some of the ELSAs participating are Anjali Gopalan (NAZ Foundation - AIDs & All Creatures Great & Small - Animals), Rashmi Misra (Vidya- Education), Shivani Wazir (Delhi Society of the Welfare of Special Children – Special Children needs), Meenakshi Gopinath (WISCOMP - Women in Security, Conflict Management and Peace), Lady Mohini Kent Noon (LILY Foundation - Human Trafficking), Archana Kaul (Srijanatmak Manushi Sanstha - Holistic development of women & children), Aanchal Kapur (Kriti team), Geeta Seshamani (Wildlife SOS) and many more.
The day long programme is filled with interactive talks on - Health, Gender issues, Education, Preservation of Handicrafts, Skill Development. Workshops on Pottery by renowned ceramic artist, curator and alumni Rekha Bajpe Aggarwal; & Kite Making by National Award winner Tausif Mia.
The highlight of the day will be fund raising from the auction of clothes, artworks etc. of designers and artists. Each successful bidder of the auction will decide which participating NGO will be the recipient of the bid.
There is something for everyone and this is also a wonderful opportunity for children to interact with various NGOs and learn about the issues being faced by the society and hopefully this will encourage the spirit of volunteering.
This is just one of the many activities proposed by the ELSA Alumni Association to be able to make a difference!
