Event Description : TALK "About Song of Surrender" by Dr. Gowri Ramnarayan.

The lecture is a tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi

Abstract : The lecture by Dr. Gowri Ramnarayan will discuss the excerpts and thoughts from the book, ‘Song of Surrender. This book is a tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. M.S. Subbulakshmi and her life as an incredible musician. It is richly illustrated with photographs, commissioned cartoons and paintings. Several musicians, artists, eminent personals, friends and family members known to Dr. Subbulakshmi have contributed to this publication. The book also has five scripts for the five performances which Ms. Gowri Ramnarayan presented on different aspects of MS’s music.

About the Speaker : Dr. Gowri Ramnarayan is a grand niece of Dr. M.S. Subbulakshmi. Through her lecture, she would present a unique insight on Dr. M.S. Subbulakshmi, her
thoughts on music as well nationalism. It will also have listening sessions of audio clips from Subramanya Bharati to Bankimchandra Chatterji.
Playwright-director, Dr. Gowri Ramnarayn is an author and journalist with a lifetime’s contribution to Indian performing arts, literature and culture. She holds a PhD in ‘Comparative Aesthetics’ from University of Madras.
