Event Description : EXHIBITION : Pathfinders presents "Natural Instinct" a solo show of photographs on Ladakh to promote Clean Himalaya Campaign. 

As avid bikers and mountain lovers we have been individually and collectively traversing thousands of miles and scaling scores of passes for more than two decades. Those journeys took us to places where no man had gone before or where only eagles dared. 

The images that we brought back were not just about nature’s grandeur and a riot of colours. Along those dirt tracks and vast deserts sitting 14,000 feet up in the sky, we felt the people’s struggle against poverty and a desire to integrate with the rest of the country. 

It was time to make our adventures socially more relevant to people who remain cut off from the rest of the country for nearly eight months. It was time for us to set larger goals of contributing towards society’s welfare and seek new challenges in pushing education among underprivileged children. 

It was time for us to become PATHFINDERS, a not-for-profit organisation registered with the Government of Delhi. 

Today our annual motorbike expeditions to the hinterlands of Ladakh, beyond the ambit of tourists, act as the delivery vehicle for social outreach. We are now working with the local administration and village Panchayats to help primary, secondary and higher-secondary schools in border areas with stationery, solar lamps, generators, sports goods and computers to help spread education among tribal children inhabiting these far-flung and desolate areas. 

Since 2015, PATHFINDERS has also started a Clean Himalaya Campaign and is working with village Panchayats as well as tour operators to tackle the problem of rising garbage and trash left behind by an increasing number of tourists. This rising mountain of trash has begun to threaten the pristine environment of Ladakh and its fragile ecology. 

This year’s exhibition is our humble effort to highlight Ladakh's Himalayan Heritage, including lakes, glaciers, flora and fauna that is at stake and needs protection.
