Event Description : TALK "Technology, Management and Institution-Building" by G Vijaya Raghavan 
As part of 'LILA-Prism' Lecture Series. 

Technopark is India's first IT hub and the largest information technology park in the country in terms of built up area. Launched in 1990, Technopark is home to over 350 companies today, employing nearly 50,000 professionals. It will soon be expanded into a Technocity—an integrated IT township. G Vijayaraghavan, the Founder CEO of Technopark traces the story of how it came into being as a part of the rapid growth of the global software industry during the 1990, and how it has grown into a space that illustrates the convergence of technological expertise, management lessons and principles of institution-building. The talk also analyses the civilizational relevance of  technological and management institutions vis-a-vis the challenges they face.

G Vijayaraghavan is an expert in technology who paved an innovative path for technological development in the country. He was instrumental in giving Kerala a leap in software technology. A successful management professional, he is known for his readiness to traverse varied paths and his capacity to bring teams together towards creating socially responsible development projects. The milestones in his career include being the first CEO of Technopark, a member of the State Planning Board , honorary director of National Institute of Speech and Hearing, and the mind behind Asian School of Business.

Kiran Karnik
Kiran Karnik is widely recognized for his work in the IT sector, especially as President NASSCOM from 2001 to 2008. He was a Director on the Board of Reserve Bank of India till September 2015, and is a Director on the Board of Reserve Bank Information Technology Private Limited and serves as an Independent Director on the Board of a few companies. He has authored a book on NASSCOM and the IT industry, and writes regularly in major national dailies. Karnik was earlier CEO of Discovery Communications India (1995-2001) and launched Discovery Channel and Animal Planet in India and South Asia. As Founder-Director of Consortium for Educational Communication (1991-95), he oversaw production and transmission of UGC’s Countrywide Classroom TV programmes. Earlier, he spent over two decades in ISRO and was deeply involved in the use of space technology, especially for education and development, including the path-breaking SITE and Kheda projects. Karnik has been conferred many awards, including the Padma Shri.
