Shell trade runs into crores of rupees and provides livelihood to millions of people in the coastal regions of India. Some of the shell varieties used to make handicrafts are permissible under law but a majority of the shells sold as souvenirs are protected under the Wildlife protection Act 1972, and have been declared endangered under CITES regulation. The documentary looks at the diversity of shell variety found in India, discussing different aspects of livelihood, illegal trade and over exploitation involved.
