Event Description : DANCE : Natya Vriksha presents Bharatanatyam Arangetram Performance by Kaveri Mehta, disciple of Guru (Padmashri) Geeta Chandran.
Kaveri Mehta has been learning Bharatanatyam under the tutelage of Guru Geeta Chandran for the past 12 years. Completing her schooling from Blue Bells School International, Kaveri completed her Bachelors in Psychology from Lady Shri Ram College and is currently pursuing her Masters in Psychology from The Arts Faculty Delhi University.
Kaveri graduated from school with Sri Mahavir Raj Bhandari award for securing the first position in school in class 12 examinations. She has won several accolades in dance. Kaveri has been the winner of the X factor – Face Bank of Talent in Dancing organized by the Yes Bank. At LSR she received an award for contribution to dance on the college day.
Kaveri has always actively participated in co-curricular activities and functions at school. An ex- member of the classical dance society of LSR, Kaveri has performed for various inter and intra college events. She had the privilege of being a part of the Opening Ceremony of Commonwealth Games 2010 under the Tree of Knowledge Segment. Apart from the above, she has also had the great opportunity of performing for the NGO Vishnu Kamal Foundation (progressively involved in spreading awareness related to cancer) at their Annual Cultural programs. Kaveri has also performed at the National Museum Institute and Asian Academy of Film and Television.
A socially conscious person, she has interned with several NGO’s in the past. She was appointed as the project head of the NGO Aashirwaad (Home for the aged )as a part of the College National Service Society.
Kaveri is an enthusiastic dancer since childhood and has also learnt Jazz from the Ashley Lobo Dance company – Dance Workx, during her initial journey in dance. Apart from dance, Kaveri has keen interest in music and has been learning the same for some time now. .
As a student of Psychology she aspires to work in the area of special education and alternate forms of therapy. She has started exploring her interests in the field of Indian Psychology and is motivated to work in the area as a part of her Master’s Degree.

GEETA CHANDRAN: A celebrated artist and a star-performer, Geeta Chandran has synthesised the knowledge she received from a galaxy of eminent Gurus to imprint Bharatanatyam with her personal vision of the dance. In her dance presentations, Geeta Chandran skilfully weaves abstract notions of Joy, Beauty, Values, Aspirations, Myth and Spirituality.
A polymath artist, Geeta Chandran is celebrated not only for her deep and composite understanding of the art of Bharatanatyam, but also for her Carnatic music (she is a trained and accomplished vocalist), her work in television, video and film, theatre, choreography, dance education, dance activism and dance-issue journalism.
Geeta Chandran is Founder-President of Natya-Vriksha and Artistic Director of the Natya Vriksha Dance Company, known for the high aesthetic quality of its group presentations that showcase Geeta’s metier as a visualiser par excellence. Geeta has also created innumerable solo performances that spotlight her aesthetic persona as an eclectic classical choreographer.
An influential spokesperson for classical dance, Geeta Chandran is the author of SO MANY JOURNEYS, an intensely personal collection of her writings narrating her engagement with Bharatanatyam. She also writes an insightful dance column in The New Indian Express/SundayStandard.
A rare combination of being both a luminary and a visionary, Geeta Chandran is a widely respected role model for the young generation. She guides reputed national cultural institutions and prestigious universities as their Board member, and also serves on the Advisory Boards of several reputed schools and colleges.
In her effort to "en-dance the universe," she engages in a strategic range of dance-related activities: performing, teaching, conducting, singing, collaborating, organizing, writing and speaking to new youth audiences.
Geeta was awarded the prestigious national award -- Padma Shri -- by the President of India in 2007.
In 2014-2015, she marked the completion of four decades of dedication to classical dance, since her arangetram in 1974.
2016 marks the silver jubilee celebrations of Natya Vriksha.
