Event Description : MUSIC "Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan" featuring Pt. Kushal Das (Sitar) & Dr. S. Sowmya (Carnatic Vocal)
The Annual Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan which is one of oldest and most prestigious music festivals in India shall be held across the country simultaneously in 24 select centres on 24th September, 2016 (Saturday). A galaxy of eminent artistes from different genres of Indian music shall be performing in this event. Started in 1954, Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan has evolved as a strong brand name for All India Radio in the mind space of connoisseurs of music for over the six decades. It is annual music event organised all over the country featuring both established and upcoming artistes from both Hindustan and Carnatic Classical Musical genre. Today, the Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan Has carved out a niche place in the annual cultural calendar of Indian Music Concerts.
Since its inception, almost all the leading luminaries from the field of classical music have performed in this annual event and the recording of these great maestros are part of priceless archival collection of All Indian Radio. In a slight departure from the tradition, this year's event shall also feature folk, light and western music artistes alongside the luminaries of classical music. The venues of Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan are usually rotated amongst different centres comprising of small townships besides the metro cities in order to give exposure even to the non-conventional centres to the best repertoire of Indian Music. This year, the event in Delhi shall feature Pt. Kushal Das, an eminent contemporary exponent of Sitar and Dr. S. Sowmya , an accomplished carnatic vocalist. Similarly, the other eminent artistes who will be performing in this year's event will include Duet) in Santi Niketan, Vishnudev Nampoothirey (Carnatic Vocal) in Chennai, Pt. Sukhdev Chaturvedi (Dhrupad) in Hyderabad, Shimoga K. Kumaraswamy (Saxophone)in Bangalore, Pt. Biswajit Roy Choudhary (Sard) in Dharwad, lvy Bannerjee (Vocal) in Agra and Bhaskar Nath (Shehnai) in Kalaburari among others. The event in Shillong shall feature "Soulmate" - Rudolf Wallang and Party (Rock Band).
As per tradition, the recording of all these performances shall be broadcast by All India Radio on its National Hook - Up comprising of all capital and regional stations of All India Radio, FM Gold (on Saturday and Sunday evening) and additionally on Raagam - the special music channel on DTH for over a month from 22nd October to 27th November, 2016.
