Event Description : JUMPSTART started in 2009 as a series of Masterclasses has been exemplary in growing as a platform for ideation, training, development and collaborations in the world of children’s content. A great connecting ground for everyone involved in creating children’s content. A great training opportunity for writers and illustrators is widely attended by teachers, publishers, artists, educationists, creators, art designers, writers, cartoonists.  The conference has shown a growth of 18% in 2015. 25% of the audience at JUMPSTART is comprised of authors whereas illustrators account for nearly 27% of the attendees. This year Jumpstart goes to school where they will provide a 360 degree view of education in theory and in practice. In Jumpstart 2016 they travel along the wide and deep interface between education in school and children's content. The major talk points of Jumpstart 2016 are:-

•       The evolution of pedagogy: We plan to engage with questions about the teaching-learning transaction, sensory development and skill building. How can developers create curricula to address these needs?

•       Technology and the teaching-learning transaction: How can technology enhance education and enrich the learning process? This year, JUMPSTART plans to address whether technology can help the critical development of students and bring them to learn at the same pace

•       Future of innovation in education: A look at the direction in which education is headed. We plan to examine new forms of learning and their applications in the future.

Speakers At Jumpstart, 2016-

Ken Spillman  Ken Spillman is one of Australia’s most versatile and prolific authors, editors and critics. He is the author of more than 35 books spanning many genres. Ken’s Jake series for younger readers has enjoyed remarkable success since 2009, and now appears in around a dozen countries across Asia, Europe, Oceania and North America. His adventure series, The Absolutely True Fantasies of Daydreamer Dev is also attracting many fans in India. An entertaining and inspiring speaker, Ken has presented sessions to many tens of thousands of schoolchildren in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman, Philippines and Singapore.

Dr.Florian Sochatzy, Digital Innovator- Florian Sochatzy is the CEO of the Institute for Digital Learning, Munich, Germany and coordinates all processes. His main interest are high quality digital learning media. The institute for digital learning develops, produces and integrates digital applications for learning in schools, museums and public places. At present the work of the institute is focused on the development of multimedia textbooks (mBooks) for history classes. Content and presentation of teaching material is aimed at specific target groups as well as learning conditions of individual students.

Preminda Langar, Educationalist- Preminda’s hallmark is developing a progressive curriculum with social responsibility; and group work that goes hand-in-hand with academics. She was part of the core team that compiled the Shri Ram School Junior School Curriculum in 2004. In 2005, she won the Outstanding Educator, Gold Award in ‘Unsung Heroes No Longer’—an all-India competition conducted by the Rustom Irani Foundation, Mumbai. Preminda was actively involved in developing the pre-school curriculum for S. Chand & Co. and for the Army Pre-Schools.

Sabina Jain, Entrepreneur, Game Based Learning- Sabina Jain left her tech career to work in the development sector. She worked with social organizations such as Hole-in-the-wall and Basix for more than 6 years developing and implementing high impact education initiatives for the masses. Callystro is a game-based learning startup from Mangalore, Co-founded by Sabina Jain, Rajeev Gopalakrishnan, Sampath Shetty and Sampath Menon in January 2012. Their flagship product CoBELS, is a pedagogical tool that enhances learning through a child’s own experiences and actions.

Ratnesh Kumar Jha, Educational Publisher- Ratnesh is the Managing Director, South Asia of the Cambridge University Press, India. Cambridge University Press India Pvt. Ltd. (CUPIPL) is a 100% subsidiary of Cambridge University Press (Holdings) Limited, UK. Ratnesh comes with experience in setting up and managing large scale businesses in a number of industries: Education, Telecoms, Technology and Banking with varied industry experience across Vodafone, GE Capital and Citibank. At Educomp Solutions in Asia-Pacific where he has been Managing Director since 2012 focusing on building partnerships, creating licensing strategies and developing online education solutions. Prior to this role, he joined Educomp India in 2008 as Chief Operating Officer for the Smart Class business. He is an alumnus of Kellogg School of Management and Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Rohit Kumar, Digital Innovator- Rohit Kumar has recently started his mobile publishing company called Chapter Apps Inc in Silicon Valley and India, focused on the global higher education market. He remains an Advisor to Reed Elsevier India Pvt. Ltd., where he was the Managing Director of Elsevier Health Sciences from 2009-2014. An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), he also has an MBA from Wharton. Rohit started his career with Accenture and worked on IT projects in India and Turkey. Prior to joining Elsevier, Rohit has worked with the Boston Consulting Group, Wipro, Microsoft, and Educomp Solutions. He is also the founder and President of Wharton Club of Delhi. He is the Co-Chair of the FICCI Publishing Committee and a board member of the Indian Rights and Reprographic Organization.

Amit Kaushik , Change Maker- Amit is a qualified economist and has spent 20 years as a Civil Servant with Government of India. He served as Director Elementary Education and helped in the roll out and implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in addition to being responsible for India's international commitments towards programmes like Education for All (EFA). He was also associated with the drafting of the Right to Education Bill, 2005, which subsequently became the basis for the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act in 2009. Since 2007, he has been in the private sector, working with such organisations as the SRF Foundation, Shri Educare Ltd, the NGO Pratham, and Educomp Schools.

German Book Office (GBO), New Delhi is a joint venture of the Frankfurt Book Fair and the Foreign Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany. Besides promoting German books and the activities of the Frankfurt Book Fair, GBO New Delhi serves as a contact point between the book industry in South Asia, Germany as well as the international book and media industries. Currently the Director of the German Book Office of the Frankfurt Book Fair in New Delhi, Prashasti Rastogi started her career in the IT industry and after a stint there, she discovered her affinity to German language. She has been in the international affairs sector, primarily Indo-German sphere for over 8 years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in IT (University of Delhi) with an MBA from FMS (University of Delhi) and an advanced certification in German language.​
