Event Description : FILM & TALK on Homi Bhabha.

The Film 
Homi Jehangir Bhabha, who made his visionary and historic contribution to institution and nation building, is one of the leading figures of science in India. On the occasion of his birth centenary in 2009 , the Tata Insitute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) made a film on his life and achievements . The film traces his early life in Bombay, his student days in Cambridge, his scientific work, his return to India leading up to the establishment of TIFR and atomic energy establishment (now named after him ) . The narrative is mainly told by people who knew Bhabha well including M.G.K. Menon,  B.V. Sreekantan, Govind Swarup , Obaid Siddiqui and others

Prelude : 
The legacy of Homi Jehangir Bhabha : This talk is a brief prelude to the film, highlighting some aspects of Bhabha as a scientist and an institution builder, especially some of his views on science, scientific excellence and the administration of scientific institutions, which are of great value even today.

About the Speaker : Prof. Spenta Wadia, International Centre for Theoretical Sciences, TIFR
His main scientific work is in high energy physics, quantum gravity and string theory. He is the founding director of the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences of TIFR in Bangalore, where he is presently Distinguished Professor Emeritus. He is an alumnus of St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, IIT-Kanpur, the City University of New York and the University of Chicago. He has held long term visiting positions at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and CERN Geneva. He is a recipient of the 2004 Physics Prize of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Trieste Italy, the 1995 Physics Prize of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) and the J.C. Bose Fellowship of the Govt. of India. He is an elected member of TWAS, a Fellow of all the Science Academies of India, and a distinguished Alumnus of St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.
