Narratives for Indian Modernity: The Aesthetic of Brij Mohan Anand is the first-ever public exhibition of select works of the maverick, anti-establishment and left oriented artist, Brij Mohan Anand (1928-1986). He was an accomplished artist and commercial illustrator for newspapers, upanyas/novels and educational books. A committed socialist, Anand’s aesthetic and studio practice reflects his anti-imperialistic stance as well as mediating a more nuanced engagement with the challenges and tensions of India’s modernity. This exhibition showcases aspects of Anand’s distinctive and socially engaged aesthetic.
