Event Description : Opera at Habitat Series " Nabucco" Italian with English subtitles

A video recording of a live production from the Metropolitan Opera House, New York. Conductor: James Levine. Sunit Tandon introduces the opera that propelled the young Verdi to success. The opera follows the plight of the Jews as they are assaulted, conquered and subsequently exiled from their homeland by the Babylonian King Nabucco (in English, Nebuchadnezzar II). When Nabucco is struck by lightning he proclaims himself to be a god. Others think he is a mad man, a tyrant. In the final reckoning how will Nabucco be judged? The historical events are used as background for a romantic and political plot. Best known for ‘Va, pensiero – The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves’, Nabucco is the operatic equivalent of a 1950s biblical Hollywood epic with its rousing, soaring score.
