Event Description : ART / WORKSHOP : Kusti Weaving & Toran Making Demonstrations & Parsi Embroidery Workshop
Kusti Weaving : An Indo- Aryan tradition of weaving is encapsulated in the Sacred Thread- the Kusti. From the Bronze Age till today it represents a Thread of Continuity and a skill which few crafts persons possess in our times. This Heritage of Humanity is being brought to you by Mastercraftpersons Navaz Bamji and Shernaz Dastur of Navsari.
Toran Making : On the Kusti Loom, Parsi women wove Czechoslovakian glass beads to create auspicious home decorations for their doors. Visit us to see this skill coming alive with Yasmin Tadiwala of Navsari.
Embroidery Workshop : Parzor has been at the forefront of the Parsi Gara Embroidery Revival since 2002. Ashdeen Z. Lilaowala and his team of skilled craftsmen and women will demonstrate and teach this ancient craft on the Parsi saal or adda. Our aim is to teach both the skill and the symbols, which have woven together a civilization and kept its craft heritage alive.
