Event Description : "Ghazal Ka Safar" A delineation of the history of ghazal since its inception through recitation and melody by poet Lakshmi Shankar Bajpai and singer Shakeel Ahmed 

·         "Ghazal ka Safar" is a  program featuring live ghazals by Ustad Shakeel Ahmed. A show which will revisit the evolution of this form of poetry and recall some popular master pieces through live rendition on stage. It provides a musical visage to the poetry of the maestros
·         Poets like Mir Taqi Mir, Mirza Ghalib, Daagh Dehlvi, Momin Khan Momin, Akbar Allahabadi, Makhdoom Mohiddeen, Ahmad Faraaz among others will be featured in this show. Also showcased will be some of the popular compositions over the years sung by several eminent artistes like Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, Begum Akhtar and Jagjit Singh
·         Well Known Poet LAKSHMI SHANKER BAJPAI uses his deep knowledge and love of the Ghazal to provide us with the insight and knowledge required to appreciate the structure and finesse of the Poetic form celebrated all over the subcontinent as the Ghazal.
·         The public at large is unaware of what exactly is a Ghazal.  We seem to ascribe this term to any poetic composition of love and longing, sung melodiously. Ghazal ka Safar aims to bring forth the inherent structure and rules which must be adhered to while composing a ghazals. These rules of composition are as strict as that of a pentarchan sonnet.  The beauty of the radif, Kafia and Beher are revealed once one is aquainted with the structure. Thereafter we will touch upon the greats whose poetry has given the ghazal the pre eminence it occupies in Literature.
·         Thus the Ghazal ka Safar program will literally take the audience on a journey wherein we will get acquainted with the Ghazal as a special form of poetry with strict rules in formation and terms like Radif, Kafia and beher. We will revisit the poetry of greats like Ghalib, Mir, Daag Dehlvi, Momin khan Momin and others. During this musical journey, Ustad Shakeel Ahmed will imbue us with an understanding and deeper appreciation of the "ghazal's" form. Shakeel Ahmed’s impeccable gaayaki, understanding of urdu poetry, flawless pronunciation and love of Ghazals will take us all into a magical world where the poetry combines with music to make a deep impact on the listener.

·         A Ghazal composer has to be a very knowledgeable classical vocalist and also have a deep understanding of literature, he has to be able to convey the emotions the poet is expressing. The lyrics of the poetry come alive in the silken voice and melody of the really accomplished and knowledgeable ghazal singer.
