Event Description : BOOK DISCUSSION "Kalatattvakosa Series : A Lexicon of Fundamental Concepts of the Indian Arts" By Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts

Kalatattvakosa series of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts relates to the fundamental concepts of Indian art terms. The series has endeavoured to evolve an important modern device to grasp the essential thought and knowledge system of the Indian artistic and cultural tradition. Through an in depth investigation into the primary sources of various Indological disciplines, the series aims at facilitating the reader to comprehend the interdisciplinary approach of Indological and art-historical research. 

The seven volumes of the series published so far deal with the concepts related to:
Vyapti - Pervasive Terms in Volume I: Terms are
:Brahman,purusa,atman,sarira,prana,bija,laksana and silpa
Desa-Kala – Space and Time in Volume II : Terms are :
bindu,nabhi,cakra,ksetra,loka,desa,kala,ksana,krama,sandhi,sutra,tala,man
a,laya,sunyaand purna
Mahabhuta – Primal Elements in Volume III : Terms are : prakrti, bhutamahabhuta,akasa,vayu,agni,jyotis/tejas/prakasa,ap,prthivi/bhumi
Srsti-Vistara – Manifestation of Nature in Volume IV: Terms
are:indriya,dravya,dhatu,guna/dosa,adhibhuta/adhidaiva/adhyatma,sthula/s
uksama/para,and srsti/sthiti/samhara
Akara-Akrti – Form/Shape in Volume V : Terms are: rekha,akaraakrti,rupa-pratirupa,sakala-niskala,arca,murti,pratimapratikrti,vigraha,bandha-prabandha
andprasada
Abhasa – Appearance/Symbolic Form in Volume VI: Terms are :abhasa,
sadrsa-sarupya,anukarana/anukrti/anukirtana,chaya,bimbapratibimba,linga,pada
and vrtti/riti
Sthana/ Ayatana – Substratum/Abode inVolume VII: Terms are :
sthana/ayatana, tirtha, kunda, skambha/stambha,
kona/asra/vrtta,citi/catya/stupa,sannivesa/samsthana

Discussants are:
Prof. Bettina SharadaBaumer, Indologist and Scholar of Religious Studies
will Chair the programme and the panel consisting of Prof. G. C. Tripathi,
Director, Bhogigal Leherchand Institute of Indology; Prof. R. N. Misra, Art
Historian ; and Prof. K. D. Tripathi, scholarof non dualistic philosophy of
Kashmir, Agama, Natyasastra & Natyasastric traditional Indian Theatre, will discuss the Series.
