Shakespeare, the poet of all poets, said, “Now is the winter of our discontent made glorious summer…” (opening lines of ‘Richard III’). Top practitioners of the art of Urdu poetry from all parts of the globe and India are all set to carry this torch forward and dispel the gloom of a cold, harsh winter with the sheer sparkle of Urdu poetry at the much awaited mushaira Jashn-e-Bahar 2016 in the capital on the evening of February 5th at Delhi Public School, Mathura Road.

Spurred by the enthusiasm of Urdu lovers (last year, the mushaira drew a gathering of over 5,000), the Jashn is returning to the capital this February with its 18thedition. Bringing the best of contemporary Urdu poetry to its lovers, the international mushaira, the biggest such event on Delhi’s cultural calendar, will present the diversity in the practice of contemporary Urdu verse and its cross-cultural and now global richness to the audiences.

Spiritual leader, Shri Morari Bapu, who is as renowned for his love of Urdu poetry as he is revered for his mystic and uplifting Manas Katha satsang, will grace the occasion with his auspicious presence. “His gracious presence will add that touch of Roohaniyat (spirituality) to the exalted poetic expression that has become the hallmark of mushaira Jashn-e-Bahar over the years,” says Kamna Prasad, Founder, Jashn-e-Bahar Trust.

The non-profit Jashn-e-Bahar Trust which is dedicated to the service of Urdu and our syncretic culture, organizes this annual mega event with the aim of promoting amity in the subcontinent and nurturing the unique institution of mushaira wherein practitioners of the art of Urdu poetry present their compositions directly to their audiences.
