Leopold Sedar Senghor, one of Africa’s leading political figures, chose to retire in the midst of his fame. The director’s approach is to exalt this poet who wrote of black awareness and the French-speaking world, and has Senghor’s words performed by a young rap artist whose naturalness and vitality illuminate a visual trip to the dwelling places of African memory.
