Event Description : Exhibition of Paintings by students of 17 schools highlighting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Background : AGENDA 2030: Adopted by the world’s leaders in September 2015, the post-2015 development agenda outlines 17 Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, to eradicate poverty, fight inequality and injustice and combat climate change by 2030. The SDGs have been based on five core principles – the 5 P’s – People, Planet, Partnership, Prosperity and Peace. These five principles set the foundations for the new global agenda, encompassing all areas of development - social, environmental, economic and cultural. A new, universal set of goals centred upon sustainable development, the SDGs will provide a framework for Member States to shape their agendas and policies over the next fifteen years.
The United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan decided to jump-start the Sustainable Development Goals by launching a creative campaign and involving 17 schools in the Delhi-NCR region. Young artists from these schools were asked to translate their creative vision of one SDG onto a painting. These painted canvases are being displayed at the India Habitat Centre for the month of March 2016 to communicate the SDG messages to the wider public.
The endeavor is supported by SONALIKA SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY.
