How do we listen to it—what are we listening for?

How is thumri different from the more commonly heard khayal or even from its close cousin, the early Hindi film song?

How is it related to other forms that we hear?

And how does it give voice to an exquisite gangajamuni culture?

Using illustrations from some classic archival recordings VidyaRao, thumri singer and music scholar will discuss thumri’s special qualities and styles.
