Event Description : IGNCA unveils the project, ‘Following the Box’ An artistic exploration of an Archive of anonymous photographs from India.

Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) opens an exhibition representing the work by 12 contemporary artists, inspired by old photographs taken under the project ‘Following the Box: An artistic exploration of an Archive of anonymous photographs from India’ in collaboration with Alan Teller and Jerri Zbiral (The Collected Image), USA.

The project, `Following the Box’ is based on a discovery of a shoebox containing 127 vintage photographic images of India taken by an anonymous American serviceman in 1945.

Following the Box is visual story telling across space, time and culture, a mystery tale of old photographs and new artistic interpretations. It is both, a mystery story and a visual dialogue between Americans and Indians over time, ultimately a celebration of the power of art. These images provide a window into an India that has changed dramatically in some areas while remaining the same in others.
