For the exhibit's special public opening and panel discussion at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, India on December 16th at 11:00 AM followed by a complimentary lunch at 1:30 PM.
Speakers: Director of the Centre for Social Research, Dr. Ranjana Kumari; Nirbhaya's Parents, Mrs. Asha Devi and Mr. Badri Nath; Exhibit Photographers, Smita Sharma and Poulami Basu
Unearthed: Stories of Courage in the Face of Sexual Violence, a moving series of first-hand accounts from women who have survived sexual violence during times of armed conflict, aims to influence the attitudes of young people and inspire social and policy change. Survivors of rape have bravely stepped forward to detail their stories in order to unveil the true legacy of violence against women.
The exhibit incorporates oral testimonies, photographs, and workshops designed to raise awareness of rape prevention and the need for laws that will both lead to the swift, just, and humane prosecution of perpetrators, and capture the strength and resilience of survivors. The exhibit includes rape survivors and "upstanders" – those who have stood up against the injustice in their communities and spoken out. One panel shows photos of the places where incidents of rape have taken place around India, emphasizing the banality and prevalence of sexual violence.
PROOF’s rape project has raised awareness and inspired change in diverse places such as Nepal, the Congo, Bosnia, Colombia, and others.
