Event Description : Opera At Habitat Series. Engelbert Humperdinck’s "Hänsel und Gretel"
Sunit Tandon introduces the tuneful Christmas Season favourite based loosely on the well-known fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. Hansel and Gretel, children of a poor woodcutter, get lost in the forest, go to sleep and, when they wake, they find a house made of gingerbread near them. The owner is a witch who turns Gretel into her servant and wants to fatten Hansel up for the oven. Just before she can place him there, the children turn the tables on her, leading to a happy (but somewhat macabre) ending...
