Event Description : This Month Esther David will read from her book 'Book of Rachel'. Esther David is an Indian author who lives in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Her novels are based on the Jewish experience in India. She weaves her stories around the Bene Israel Jewish community of India. Esther David has received the Sahitya Akademi award for 2010 for English Literature from the Government of India.
The novel is about the old who have been left behind in India by families, which immigrated to Israel. She deals with the pervading sense of isolation, by trying out an ancient recipe every day.Rachel’s story is woven around love,longing,recipes and the Jewish heritage in India.
Note : This month, due to Gazetted holiday on fourth Thursday (24th December), Book Reading Session will be held on fifth Thursday of December, 2015.
Background : IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library. Under the Outreach initiative the IGNCA Book Circle has a monthly event held on the fourth Thursday of every month.
Exciting works of fiction, non-fiction and those of academic interest will be showcased through readings, panel discussions and informal conversations. The aim is to tap into the rich intellectual wealth of Delhi and the IGNCA, and bridge the divide between the reader and writer in the wonderful setting on the IGNCA Library.
