Event Description : Italian Embassy Cultural Institute presents Guitar Recital By Luigi Attademo, award-winning guitarist from Italy

Programme includes works by Scarlatti, J.S. Bach, Paganini, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Giuliani and Legnani

This programme ideally tends to describe the Italian style through one of its salient features, the "cantabile" or “songlike”, the main characteristic of all the operatic music especially of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It is not by mere coincidence that the beginning is entrusted to a sonata by Scarlatti, great virtuoso of the harpsichord and also great heir to the tradition of the Neapolitan school. The influence of Italian opera arrives, through the great composers of the eighteenth century, to influence all the instrumental music of the nineteenth century, thanks to the spread of Italian opera and its greatest performers.

Award-winning in several national and international competitions, among others the “Concours International d’Exécution Musicale (CIEM)” in Geneva (1995), Luigi Attademo was pupil of the guitarist-composer Angelo Gilardino. Graduate in Philosophy with a dissertation on musical interpretation, he has published a book on this subject. In 2010 he gave concerts in London, Madrid and in Australia, performing contemporary music and two different projects about Villa-Lobos and Segovia. After his CD dedicated to Scarlatti's Sonatas (2009), in 2011 he recorded a double CD dedicated to Bach music for lute, published by Brilliant Classics. In 2013 he worked on a book and a CD on the "Paganini Project" (contemporary music for guitar). In the same year, he recorded with the complete music for guitar by Niccolò Paganini (Brilliant Classics). This year the Italian magazine Amadeus dedicated him an issue, publishing a new recording on Fernando Sor's masterpieces.
