Event Description : Sightsavers in association with the British Council and Beyond Sight Foundation exhibits photographs captured by Visually Impaired Photographers in the Week of World Disability Day.
Sightsavers, a development organisation that works to prevent avoidable blindness, restore sight and advocate for social inclusion for people with disabilities will organise a photography exhibition of photos clicked by visually impaired photographers at the British Council. The event will take place in the week of International Day of Persons with Disabilities which is annually held on December 3 to focus on issues that affect people with disabilities worldwide. The photos that will be showcased in the exhibition will be a part of ‘The Blind View’ campaign – a photography workshop initiated by Sightsavers in association with Beyond Sight Foundation for the visually impaired photography enthusiasts and is being supported by Her Highness Sheikha Arwa Al Qassimi.
This exhibition will see a display of 25 to 30 photographs as taken in Mumbai, Bangalore and recently in Delhi depicting different themes which blind participants have taken of other blind or visually impaired participants doing a series of interesting activities. Each picture would be a story in itself representing different aspects of the blind experience.
“This exhibition is our effort to showcase the glimpses of the life of a blind person - how they perform their daily chores, how do they use assistive technology to their advantage at the office and so on...” said RN Mohanty, CEO, Sightsavers (India).
Mr. Partho Bhowmick, Founder, Beyond Sight Foundation said, “We were able to successfully conduct two photography workshops earlier this year where the participants were trained to click perfect pictures under skilled supervision.”
Other Activities: In addition to the photo exhibition, Sightsavers would arrange for other fun filled and interesting activities that would offer visitors a closer look at a blind person’s life.
