ABOUT THE PLAYS :
‘Shabash Kudiye’ an amalgamation of three short stories written by eminent writer and award winner poet Smt. Urmil Satya Bhushan. The stories are- ‘Mujhey Kshma Kardo mummy, Makdi and Shaabash kudiye’. The three short stories explore many facets of women engulfed in the middle class of Indian society and her challenges. The realistic portrayal of these characters makes audience feel an immediate connect with the characters
‘On the Astral Plane’ is a satire on the Nouveau spiritual lifestyle which is becoming a fad in the society. Its the story of a very successful self made Business-man, Raghuvender Singh, and his wife, Romilla Singh who has metamorphosed from a home maker to a kitty party socialite to now as an Angel Tarot reader. Raghuvender is appalled by the involvement of each of his family members in some or the other New age spiritual modality be it his son who is a Osho swami, His daughter-in-law who is a chakra healer, his mother who’s a Sai devotee and even his maternal uncle who is an astrologer. He is amazed as he finds their house hold servant is also involved in Ramdev’s yoga. Problem starts when Romilla’s first client of the tarot reading is asking a question which her Indian mindset does not permit. The play is all about understanding the impact of these spiritual modalities in a normal upper class household setup.
The Intimate Liasons explores the darker shades of today’s society and the changing gender dynamics which exist. The story revolves around a court hearing regarding the rape of a prostitute by bisexual business tycoon. Filled with twists & turns, it basically brings out two main questions: Can a prostitute be raped? And do we have the right to choose our sexuality & sexual orientations?
