Event Description : VSK Baithak with Violinist Dr. N Rajam.
The moment the bow in the hand of Dr. Rajam caresses the strings of her violin, it instantly comes alive and is suffused with a soul. It starts not only to sing but, even more, emote. The nuanced music, Dr. Rajam coaxes from her violin has the unmistakable imprint of the Gayaki of her Guru Pt. Omkarnath Thakur and the "sanskars" of Varanasi where she came as a teenager to learn music. And stayed on for almost 5 decades to teach music, perform music, attain national and international renown. And above all to innovate and infuse Gayaki Ang into exposition of Violin Recitals. Recitals of the foremost Violinist of our country Dr. Rajam, even though they are relatively rare in Delhi, are always utterly soulful and absolutely fulfilling. And when she is accompanied by her hugely gifted daughter Sangeeta Shanker & enormously talented granddaughters Ragini & Nandini; the occasion acquires the colours of a celebration.
