“Sasha” and “Sanskar” present Tsutra: an exhibition that celebrates the rich culture of Indian heritage and contemporary design. Tsutra is an exhibition that celebrates craft and textiles respecting Fair Trade values, indigenous culture and the environment.

Sonam Dubal of ‘Sanskar’, a  revivalist and a leading fashion designer partners with Roopa Mehta, CEO of “Sasha”, a Fair Trade Organization brings together a unique  collection of ensembles for primarily  women in woven textiles and prints and home accessories.
Textured Chandrabati cottons , Abstract prints with  surface detailing in kurtas, kaftans, panelled tunics, and coats with embroidered saris create a fresh take for the coming festive season  , Phulia cotton scarves  and jamdani stoles also add style to  patchwork and layered jackets and wraps in various cotton textures and silk prints creating a new  cultural canvas .

This eclectic collection is complimented with  special personal accessories like leather hand bags, Dhokra jewellery, home textiles in silks and  recycled fabrics with traditional quilting and Kantha work. The color palette is a mix of festive brights, deep hues and earthy tones in browns, blacks and navy with contrasts of oranges and reds  .

In this collection, to be shown at the Alliance Francaise de Delhi for the third consecutive year, we have Incorporated an  interesting block printing series coined the transport series, abstract florals and stripes  .

Ikats also add an element of heritage through traditional embroideries like Aari and Zardosi developed into cushion covers.  Patchwork throws and kantha bedspreads adding  a feel of Nostalgia to the collection..

About Sasha:
Sasha is a guaranteed Fair Trade Organization in India working with over 100 marginalized craft producer groups and communities based primarily in West Bengal and other parts of eastern India. We also provide them with enterprise building inputs and access to national and international markets. Sasha’s work model propagates principles of Fair Trade i.e. fair income and wages, gender equity, transparency, respect for cultural traditions social justice and safe environment. Over the last three decades we have made extensive efforts to market handmade products, which have the potential to cross over from the typical ‘handicraft’ niche to the mainstream of ‘home’, ‘lifestyle’ and ‘gift’ segments. Conducting design research and design interventions, exposing the craftsmen to different cultures for the upliftment of the crafts communities are our priorities. Improving the networking by approaching government & associations in other countries for the mutual social-economic growth are some of our clearly defined objectives. Sasha’s wide network in this arena helps promote high-end craft at the national & international level.

The frequent collaborations between European & Indian designers result in Indian artisans giving shape to the creative ideas generated by the designers. This demonstrates the value of collaboration in a global market wherein crafts and textile traditions from India can be nurtured and sustained for their intrinsic worth and business possibilities. Many Indian traditions (especially from Eastern India) hitherto lost are now being revived and reinvented. Collaborations in design and product development are also extended to talented young designers from renowned design schools through valued internships. It is a mutually beneficial process where both sides gain in tangible and intangible terms. In its endeavor to protect the environment and encourage the use of natural resources in a responsible way, Sasha promotes sustainable production methods favoring handcrafted skills and usage of biodegradable and organic materials. The mutual bond between Sasha and its producer partners and the intrinsic values of Sasha network is reflected in the Sasha Brand. The synergy of the creative aspiration of indigenous artisans and modern, fresh outlook of the professional designers find expression in some fascinating products and applications. Skill up gradation and technical inputs are provided to bring in modern processes, methods, and techniques. Assistance is also given for expanding infrastructure, promoting organizational development, inculcating good business practices with emphasis on proper planning and quality assurance.
