Event Description : Centre for Indian Classical Dances presents "How to Experience the Gita Govinda of Jayadev" Odissi Dance By Sonal Mansingh.

Jayadeva wrote this unusual love-poem dedicated to Radha and Krishna in 12th Century Orissa. Racing through a gamut of love in its prismatic glory, the plot revolves around longings, separations, misunderstandings, pleadings and triumph of love in an unparalleled combination of imagery. Lyricality and spirituality of the poem have become synonymous with Krishna where his beloved Radha is the presiding Deity and it is she who wields and holds the power of life and love.


Understanding Jayadeva’s many-dimensional persona, his use of Sanskrit language, synonyms for Krishna, description of Nature are some of the few high-points in this presentation.
