Event Description : The Poetry Society, India and KECSS presents "Celebrating Legendary Poets" with the panel discussion "Beyond Body, Beyond Mind: The Mystic Musings of Lalleshwari (Lal Ded) – The Great Saint-Poetess of Kashmir"
Panelists : Dr. R. K. Bhat, Dr. S. S. Toshkhani and Mr. C. L. Sapru
They will speak on her spiritual, cultural and literary contributions, and read her poems in English and Hindi translation
Prof. Chaman Lal Sapru is a Hindi scholar and is credited for making it part of the curriculum in J & K. He has been professor of Hindi and Principal of various degree colleges in the State. He has received several awards including Sahityakar Samman, Hindittar Bhashi Hindi Lekhak Samman, Sarvashreshta Pustak Samman and Sohard Samman. He has authored 19 books in Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri and English. He has also been the editor of Hindi magazines such as Kashyap and Satisar.
Dr Roop Krishen Bhat is a writer, linguist and a media freelancer. Dr. Bhat has worked as Professor at the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL),Mysore; Director, Directorate of Adult Education, MHRD, New Delhi, among other assignments. Dr. Bhat has written/edited/co-authored thirty books in the fields of Language, Linguistics, Literature, and Mass Media. He has received the Sahitya Academy award for Translation.
Dr. S.S. Toshkhani is a poet, linguist and writer. He has contributed substantially to Kashmiri heritage and carried out modern research in various fields of Kashmiri literature, history, religion, art and social science in general. He is conducting research on Bhakti tradition in Kashmiri Poetry as part of senior fellowship of the Ministry of Culture and on rituals and visual arts of Kashmir at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.
Dr. Beena Budki, Editor, Kashmir Sandesh will lead the discussion.
