Event Description : "'Vritti' - A Whirlpool of Thoughts" a solo art exhibition by Swati Gupta. ‘Vritti’ is a condensation of her internal whirlpool of thoughts, represented through visual narratives in the form of paintings and photographs.
The artist explores the infinite realm of thoughts that seamlessly transcend into the physical world, and manifest themselves in varied forms around us. Her works are based on the premise of human tendencies to not take things for their face value, but as the surreal powers of the heart and mind dictate.
The art on display is potent with keen observations, and imbued with social, emotional and
geographical trajectories that influence our sub-conscious. The extensive body of works, including paintings and creative photographs, are largely rendered in acrylic, watercolor, ink and mixed media. The subject determines the artist’s choice of medium.
The artist draws inspiration from her travels around the world, and explores the realm of her thoughts in her works using innovative canvases such as tracing paper, leather, cotton dupattas, and gessoed boards. The fluidic, layered images depict an astute sense of motion, and are often cathartic in nature, as they make the viewer traverse through his own mental and emotional labyrinth.
With harmonious use of color and medium, the narratives intend to render myriad impressions – visual, subliminal, physical and associative, that impinge on the consciousness of an individual and form a part of his awareness.

About the Artist : Swati Gupta, born in 1990 and raised in New Delhi, has numerable accomplishments to boast of at a rather young age. She holds a BS degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Economics, along with minors in Computer Science and Computational Finance, from the esteemed Carnegie Mellon University, USA. Her journey with paints began at the age of 14 when she pursued a diploma in fine arts from the Bangiya Sangeet Parishad. She owes her accomplishments as an artist to Shri S. S. Kukkal, under whose aegis she grew and matured her style and form of art.
She personifies her experiences thought her works, and translates her personal inquiry within into potent mindscapes, which draw the viewer into this stream of consciousness. Her belief that watercolors are on the verge of becoming a lost medium, create special resonance with her, as like her thought-process, they help her go with the flow.
Swati lives in New Delhi with her husband, and manages their business full-time. She finds solace in her paints, music and her experiments with cooking. Her favorite way to unwind is to play with their dog, Caramel. She will begin her Masters at the Indian School of Business in August 2015.
