Event Description : "Hannah Arendt" documentary film screening.
During the year 1961, the influential German- Jewish philosopher Hannah Arendt reported for the New Yorker magazine on the Nazi war crimes trial of Adolf Eichmann. In her report, she used the term "Banality of Evil" to describe what she saw and learnt. Using footage from the actual Eichmann trial and weaving a narrative that spans three countries, Margharete von Trotta turns the often invisible passion for thought into immersive dramatic cinema. Recipient of Lola Award for Best Actress and Silver Lola for Best Film, Deutscher Filmpreis, 2013; Guild Film Award- Gold from the Guild of German Art House Cinemas, 2013; Audience Award for Best Narrative Film, Women + Film Voices Film Festival, Denver, 2013; Best Actress, Bavarian Film Awards, 2013.
Screening followed by an open discussion with the audience about some of the key ideas brought up in the film and their relevance in our lives.
