Event Description : Alliance Française de Delhi, Institut Français en Inde and The French Embassy in India present Writers, Etc. – Session 36 "New Stakes of the Web: A conversation with Frédéric Martel & Anurag Batra"

Frédéric Martel is a senior researcher and journalist. He has a PhD in Sociology and four master degrees in law, political science, philosophy, and sociology. He has been visiting scholar at Harvard and teaches at Sciences Po Paris and, previously, at the HEC's MBA. He has been invited as a key note speaker in dozens of countries and universities around the world. 
He is the author of nine books, including On Culture in America (Gallimard, 2006) and the best-seller Mainstream : On the Global War on Culture and Medias (Flammarion, 2010, translated in twenty countries). *
As a journalist, Frédéric Martel is the anchor of the weekly radio program « Soft Power » on French National Public Radio (France Culture/Radio France). He is the editor of the book review site nonfiction.fr as well a columnist for Slate.fr (weekly column on international affairs).
He is currently a Senior Researcher Fellow at the ZHdK University in Zurich and Hong Kong and a Senior Researcher at IRIS, the Institute of International Relations (Paris). He advises the European Commission and he is a member of “New Narrative for Europe”, the cultural task force of the president of the EU. 
His last book, Smart, On the internets (Stock, 2014) is in translation in seven languages.

Anurag Batra is a serial entrepreneur, media mogul, and a journalist. He is a B. Tech in Computer Sciences, a degree, which he acquired before joining Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, one of India's leading Business School. Mr. Batra is also appointed by Government of India as the Chairman of an industry committee formed to come up with a vocational training framework for the media, communication and entertainment industry. In 2006, the prestigious Management Development Institute (MDI) and Mr. Batra’s Alma Mater awarded him the “Most Distinguished Alumni of the Decade Award”.

written ideas and their practitioners can interact with each other and the general public, coming together to ask pertinent questions and seek their answers: what role does 
literature play in contemporary societies? How do writers see their responsibilities vis-à-vis the public and, turning that over, how do we see writers? How has the written word adapted to its place among the growing pantheon of varied and addictive forms of cultural transmission? The aim is to encourage a discovery, unencumbered by genre, of all the 
written oeuvres, ranging from living legends to new and emerging talent.
