Safdarjung's Tomb
Safdarjung’s Tomb lies in the heart of New Delhi and marks the conclusion of the Mughal architectural conversation that had begun with Humayun’s Tomb. The tomb of Mirza Muqium Abul Mansoor Khan, also known as Safdarjung, is the last example of the tomb within a garden layout in Delhi, a landscape architectural plan initiated and perfected by the Mughals. Completed in 1757, the tomb and landscape followed the Charbagh pattern of Mughal gardens. The building itself is imposing, but its use of materials tells us that this was really the period of the end of the Mughal Empire. This “last flicker” still stands near the Lodhi Gardens and offers great insights to travelers seeking to understand the history of Delhi!
