Event Description : 'Impressions' Khayalat Khayal, thumri & dadra by Anirban Bhattacharyya. 'Ecstacy' Concert and launch of Classical-Bolly Fusion Band

Impressions would be an evening of soulful music ranging from Classical to the Contemporary featuring the versatile vocalist Anirban Bhattacharyya. The evening showcases a unique musical journey beginning with the age-old tradition of North Indian classical music, then slowly drifting towards semi-classical genres of Thumri, Dadra and Ghazal, culminating in a foot-tapping, energy packed Classical-Bolly-Fusion performance designed and conceptualized by Anirban.
Khayalat, the first half of the concert features Anirban a​s a classical vocalist. The fluidity of Patiala Gharana gayaki along with the nuances of Bol-Baat of the Lucknow gharana is what that makes Anirban stand-out from the other vocalists from his generation. The music is an intelligent mix of Khyal, Thumri-Dadra and Ghazal presented in a traditional Baithaki setup. 
New Year, New Sound and a Brand-New Band- the second half of the the concert celebrates the launch of Anirban’s Classical-Bolly-Fusion Band and also talks about his upcoming projects to be launched in Delhi and India-wide. Song ranges from Ghazal Fusion from Hariharan’s Album ‘Kash’ to Tarana composed by AR Rahman, from Malhar bandish to Mitwa to Aaj Jaane ki Zid Karo. The evening promises a whole spectrum of music by one Artiste- Anirban. The drums, percussions, Sitar, Flute, Bass and Electro Piano create a unique heady soundscape that gives the evening another level of climax.

Anirban Bhattacharyya is a Hindustani classical vocalist of the Patiyala tradition and a junior ethnomusicologist. A senior disciple of Padmashree Ajoy Chakraborty, Anirban aims to break the boundaries between different performance traditions and create a unique space for him. A President of India Gold and Silver Medalist from All India Radio in Khyal and Thumri, and Champion in Thumri from State Music Academy in 2010, Anirban is also a National Scholar from Ministry of Culture and had the opportunity of learning from and performing with the legendary Kathak maestro Padma Vibhushan Birju Maharaj all over India and abroad for last few years. On the academic front, Anirban is a Masters in Economics Calcutta University and Masters in Music from SOAS London, and has been invited to perform in some of the most prestigious festivals in UK including Darbar Festival and Dartington Festival. Anirban has toured all over Europe, US, South Africa and Bangladesh and had the privilege of performing in Royal Albert Hall in London along with Shankar Mahadevan. Anirban has also lent his voice in the famous TV Mega Serial 'Sadhak Bamakhyapa' and sung more than 30 songs which has been aired for last five years on the media. Anirban’s academic research focuses on the historical musicology of India.
