Event Description : The Embassy of Israel and Alliance Française de Delhi is pleased  to invite you for a special screening of the French Classical film "Les stances à Sophie" Film Screening.

Celine is a free – spirited, sexually liberated woman who embarks upon a relationship with the bourgeois philippe that is doomed from the start. Celine struggles to live with her newly found confines, before reasserting her freedom through writing (a text on ‘female sexuality’), art and love affairs.

A car crash starts and ends this prophetic film, which was made in Paris in 1970. An excellent cast by Bernadette Lafonte (as Celine) and Michel Duchaussay (as Philippe) seamlessly weave the theme of sexuality, Art, Truth, Love and Music throughout the Film.

With the stunning soundtrack by the Art Ensemble of Chicago (who also make an appearance in the film),a superb sophisticated narrative based on the powerful, feminist novel by Christiane Rochefort (who also co-wrote the script) and Moshe Mizrahi’s excellent direction – with all the energy of the youthful French new wave movement – makes this film an instant essential addition to French Cinema.
