Event Description : Vacheron Constantin in partnership with Tasveer, is delighted to announce Kaleidoscope, first exhibition in India by internationally acclaimed British fashion photographer, Ram Shergill
In its continuous quest for excellence, of preserving art and culture while echoing openness to the world, Vacheron Constantin has strengthened its ongoing support to the art of photography in India by partnering with Tasveer’s 9th Season of exhibitions across the country.
“For my first exhibition in India I've been delighted to have the support of Vacheron Constantin - a brand whose attention to detail and understanding of art and craftsmanship is a perfect fit with the kind of beauty and style I try and capture in my photographs,” said Ram Shergill.
One of the key Imagists of the directional British fashion scene, who reinvented the concept of ‘Cool Britannia’, Shergill was propelled into the fashion world following a chance meeting with milliner Phillip Treacy — noted for his hat designs, that had captured the imaginations of the fashion circuit and had been worn by the British Royal family; and the late Isabella Blow, an integral and influential force in British
fashion. Both immediately recognised Shergill’s latent talent, and soon Shergill was working on editorial and advertising commissions for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Tatler, i-D, POP, Dazed & Confused and W magazine, with illustrious subjects including Amy Winehouse, Diane Kruger, Naomi Campbell, Dame Judi Dench and Amitabh Bachchan amongst others.
Shergill’s impressive achievements can be attributed to his fresh, original approach amalgamating technical skill with imaginative compositions and a painterly eye. His photographic process can be likened to an abstract theatrical performance, whether taking portraits or fashion photographs, he often gives his subjects a part to play, which he believes allows them to access and expose overlooked, unexplored aspects of their character, and psyche.
“Through our partnership with Tasveer, we aim to build a framework and context around Indian photography by showing, new projects from inside the country alongside works from the West, which have previously been unseen in India. Ram Shergill’s sophisticated works serve as a reminder that tradition and modernity quite naturally rub shoulders,” said Mr. Rishab Suresh, Country Manager-India, Vacheron Constantin.
