Event Description : Kaladharmi in association with Teamwork Arts is celebrating the centennial of Queen of Ghazals, Begum Akhtar.

The festival is curated Begum Akhtar's disciple Professor Rita Ganguly.  

A celebration of inspiring life and works of Queen of ghazals Begum Akhtar.

To celebrate the hundred years of  the  inspiring works of Queen of Ghazals , Begum Akhtar, Kaladharmi in association with Teamwork Arts brings to music lovers and connoisseurs , Jamal –e-Begum Akhtar, a two day celebration of Begum Akhtar’s music with a spectacular Ghazal and Poetry recital. The evening will give an opportunity  for music lovers to witness once in a lifetime event with all the greats of Ghazal and poetry, together in one festival of world class repute, under one roof, performing live in front of an elite audience.

Renowned artists from the music fraternity  will share the stage to pay obeisance  to the Begum Akhtar through the Ghazal recitals. The  eminent artist line up includes Pankaj Udhaas, Anoop Jalota, Penaz Masani , Talat Aziz, Chandan Dass , and professor Rita Ganguly. Padamshree Sudhir Tailang will grace the occasion with a live caricature of artists and the mood of the evening.
The celebration continues on  October 7 evening  with shayaari recitals by Amjad Islam Amjad,  Sheen Kaf Nizam, Manzar Bhopali , Madan Mohan ‘Danish’ and Rajesh Reddy.

The evenings will also witness a 20-minute audio-visual presentation on Begum Akhtar, “Jamal-e-Begum Akhtar”, made by Rita Ganguly as a tribute to her guru.

 Pankaj Udhas, the man with a golden voice will be conferred a Lifetime Achievement Award for his immense contribution to the Ghazal genre, while eminent poet Amjad Ali Amjad of Pakistan  will be conferred with BAAG Award.

About Kaladharmi :
Kaladharmi, a registered non-profit making organization was started by a group of experienced persons including practicing artistes, scholars and connoisseurs of the performing arts. With a view to setting up a regular arts presentation programme, Kaladharmi has attempted to bring to the Delhi stage young dancers and musicians trained in different teaching centers in the country. Kaladharmi has offered its platform to those who have shown outstanding solo ability as stage performers so as to help them advance their career on the professional stage.

Begum Akhtar Academy of Ghazal (BAAG) was founded in 1994 to encourage the almost dying language of Urdu and the art of Ghazal. BAAG has been recognizing the work of well-known contemporary Shayars and notable Ghazal Singers with lifetime achievement recognition by conferring the prestigious Begum Akhtar Academy of Ghazal Award.
