Event Description : Kathak Guru Jitender Maharaj and Bharatanatyam Guru Kanaka Sudhakar collaborate to present a dance ballet of Kathak and Bharatanatyam titled Krishnamayee Meeraandal (two stories, one love) as part of National Integration series by Sunaina (Society for Upliftment of National Arts of India). This is a beautiful dance ballet of Kathak and Bharatanatyam depicting the stories of two saint poets, Meera of North India and Aandal of South India, signifying the National unifying force, love towards the divine form.
The Indian soil has many saint poets to its credit from North India to South India from east to west. Whatever be the language, background, caste or creed the Indian soil has the capacity to bind all with its innate sense of devotion or bhakti towards its favorite and loving god Krishna. Krishna is the binding force due to many reasons. Krishna is love incarnate. He loves all unconditionally. Be it a peasant or a queen it is only devotion that matters. Whether it is nindha stuti, shringara bhakti or madhura bhakti people are attracted to his divine form as is the bee to the flower.
Meera, the devout bhakt of Krishna, hailed from North India. People listened spell bound to her bhajans and thronged wherever she was present whether temple, fields or roads.
Andal was also an ardent devotee of Krishna and she hailed from Deep South India. Like Meera, she thought herself to be a gopi incarnate and the destined wife of Krishna or Sriranganatha. All the people and girls of south sing her songs with devotion in the belief of getting a good husband.
