Event Description : Alfred Herrhausen Society, the international forum of Deutsche Bank & National Institute of Urban Affairs would like to invite you to a panel discussion on 'Handmade Urbansim : Exploring Grassroots Initiatives in cities' More than half of the world’s population now lives in cities and this is expected to rise over the coming decades. Cities concentrate severe social and environmental challenges but they can also offer potential and opportunities for solutions.
The panel discussion will be based on the book co-edited by Marcos L. Rosa and Ute E. Weiland and published by Jovis (2013) that explores the experiences of participatory urban projects in Mumbai, Sao Paulo, Istanbul, Mexico City and Cape Town. The discussion will examine the role that grassroots initiatives can play in cities in the developing world, especially in the context of rapid urbanization.
The discussion is organised in partnership with the National Institute of Urban Affairs.
Discussion Panel will include, Amongst Others :
JAGAN SHAH, Director, National Institute of Urban Affairs
PRIYA SHANKAR, Senior Researcher and Project Developer, Alfred Herrhausen Society
VIJAI KAPOOR, Former Lt. Governor of Delhi
