Event Description : Indian Steam Railway Society presents 'Full Steam Ahead' Photographic Exhibition on Steam Locomotives.
Indian Steam Railway Society is a non-profit organization engaged in generating and preserving public affection for steam locomotives, besides taking steps for preserving the locomotives and associated skills. The society regularly holds monthly meetings for its members, organizes talks and exhibitions centering on steam locomotives and once a year holds a national conference on steam locomotives. The society was formed in the year 1999 by a group of steam locomotive enthusiasts, who firmly believe that this unique human heritage must be preserved in its full glory for coming generations to relish its majesty, beauty and simplicity.
In a series of events that the society organizes around the year, aimed at the furtherance of the cause of steam locomotives, It is organizing a 7 day Photographic exhibition on the theme of steam locomotives.
Steam Locomotives have for long fascinated one and all with their majestic personality, enigmatic beauty, overpowering presence and the brute power they generated by using pure water and raw fire in their belly. These machines have an eternal charm about them that boarders on the realm of pure nostalgia and evoke a sense of romance as well, no wonder they are referred to as ‘Black Beauties’. Many a tales of friendship and love have been woven around steam hauled trains and on the silver screen, they are a sight to behold, adding to any frame by their own individual personality. Old timers and children alike remember and associate Railways only with Steam Engines and the sound of its distinct whistle. Alas, these machines have made a silent exit from the mainstay and it’s now hard to see a working steam locomotive in India but, we all do miss them.
This Exhibition is a photographic tribute to Indian Railway’s steam locomotives from the early 1930s to the present day revived steam, which can be seen in their full glory - on steam and puffing. Pictures shot by celebrated photographers like Steve McCurry, Bearn Seller and Guy Brigden can be seen along with photographs clicked by steam locomotive enthusiasts and amateur photographers like Ashok Sharma, Arjun Singh, Sameer Bhatnagar and Vikas Arya, besides several other photographs clicked by anonymous photographers.

This exhibition is expected to give a fillip in the country to this unique heritage of mankind.
