Event Description : Talk on Cardio-Vascular Disease: India's Silent Killer'. 
The World Health Report 2002 identifies cardiovascular diseases (CVD) as the leading cause of death and disability in India by 2020. Yet, this “silent killer” is caused by several preventable factors, such as adverse lifestyles, smoking, physical inactivity, improper diet and stress etc. Raising these pertinent issues, Ms. Ralston and Dr. Menabde will share best practices and advocate the need for collective efforts in combating this pan-India epidemic. The session will be chaired by renowned Cardiologist Dr. Subhash Manchanda who has been conducting ‘Heart Reversal Camps’.

About the Speaker (S) : 

1. Ms. Johanna Ralston, CEO, World Heart Federation, Geneva:
Ms. Ralston took on the post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the World Heart Federation on 1 February 2011. She has more than twenty years of experience in global health and development. Johanna has also served as Vice President, Global Strategies at the American Cancer Society (ACS). While working at ACS, Johanna utilized her strong leadership skills to build up their Global Health department, launching ACS University (a program aimed at strengthening civil society’s role in cancer control in low- and middle-income countries) and the international roll-out of Relay for Life as well as leading global tobacco and cancer control projects in more than 30 countries.
Johanna is an alumna of Harvard and the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Programme, and has studied public health at Harvard and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health."

2. Dr. Nata Menabde, WHO Representative to India
Dr. Menabde has a robust public health academic background and 28 years of experience as a health professional, during which she has built an extensive track record in public health and health systems at country and international levels. Prior to taking up her current job in India she worked as Deputy Regional Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe. Dr Menabde has led WHO Regional office’s work on Health Systems and their relationships with health and wealth which culminated in adoption of Tallinn Charter on health systems.
 Her track record also includes accomplishments in the areas of tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, noncommunicable diseases and risk factors, climate change and other environmental concerns, health security, intellectual property rights and the social determinants of health. Dr. Menabde holds a PhD degree in Clinical Pharmacology, diplomas in Health Management and Leadership from USA and in Health Care Economics from UK. She also studied Public Health at Nordic School of Public Health, Sweden."

Chair: Dr. Subhash Manchanda, Former Head, Department of Cardiology, AIIMS
Dr. Manchanda joined Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi as Senior Consultant Cardiologist in 2003. He was formerly Head of the Department of Cardiology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences for 36 years. Dr. Manchanda has been a brilliant medical surgeon, an excellent researcher and a humane clinician. He has written over 300 original research articles including 4 books on Cardiology. 
Dr Manchanda’s main contribution has been the original research on reversal of heart disease by meditation, diet and exercise. He conducts ‘Heart Reversal Camps’ regularly at Adhyatma Sadhana Kendra, Chattarpur, Mehrauli. Dr Manchanda has been honoured with several awards and orations both nationally and internationally including Padam Shri Award by the President of India in 2004."
