Event Description : Historian Sunil Kumar leads a walk exploring Dihli-i kuhna- the old city of the Delhi Sultans with its environs, its city-gate, its lashkargah (military camp), later settlements and modern histories. One part of the walk will explore the eastern fortifications and environs of the first city of Delhi, mistakenly described as 'Qila Ra'i Pithora'. We will pause at Hauz-i Rani, the army-camp of the city where the Delhi Sultan greeted ambassadors and large public ceremonials (including mass executions transpired). Another part of the walk will also consider the hydrology of the early Sultanate cities and the ways in which their histories were rewritten. To that end, we will also visit the 16th century sufi shrine of Maqbul Shah, the Khirki mosque and Satpula dam.
