Kavitha Ramu is a Senior Bharatanatyam Artist performing as a soloist for the past 20 years. She has performed under the auspices of various reputed Sabhas in India and has toured abroad with over 400 performances to her credit. In addition to this Kavitha has Visited U.S.A and Canada and played lead role of Annmayya’swife in ‘Annamayya’ a thematic presentation by Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna. Toured Japan and presented Solo Bharatanatyam recitals and lecture demonstrations in Japan on the invitation of the Mithila Museum, Niigata.
Kavitha is an A grade artist of Doordarshan and an empanelled artist of the ICCR.
She is a member of the State Civil Services Government of Tamil Nadu, presently Additional District Magistrate Chennai district.
She is noted for her unique thematic presentation in her own repertoire. Some of these are ~ Navarasam- Choreographed specially for the VIII world Tamil Conference combining verses from Tamil Classics, set to music by Violin Maestro Sri Kunnakudi R. Vaidhayanathan.Balaghandham– Verses from KambaRamayanam – depicting Sri Rama’s, Childhood and SitaKalyanam.Azhwargal Kanda Ambujappadan– A thematic presentation compiling verses from NaalayiraDivyaPrepandham and compositions of Smt. Ambujam Krishna.
Some of the awards received by her are ~‘Nadanamamani’ awarded by KarthikFine Arts, Chennai.‘YuvakalaBharathi’ awarded by BharatKalachar, Chennai.‘Ambujam Krishna’award for excellence in Bharatanatyam, instituted by the Music Academy, Chennai.
