Event Description : Conserve India presents
'At War with the Obvious' an exhibition of mixed media works by Anita Ahuja.

Nowadays, environmental issues are rooted in our minds and turning loop like a broken record. We have created the principle of waste, these objects used and then discarded. If the work of art comes from the hand of man, waste is a collective work for which we do not need to be an artisan or an artist to lead the process. But can we give an aesthetic value to plastic bags and other waste materials which have such an ephemeral value? We almost dare to say that few people from Western culture care about the fate of such waste, and even if we are making the effort, our knowledge would remain limited. The streets are relatively clean. In india, the amount of waste is palpable and invades every corner for miles. Colors dance and wiggle on the sidewalks. The reincarnation is a main point in the Indian culture and Anita Ahuja gives a new life to our waste which then become aesthetic. If «Conserve India» works for the moment as a textile industry, the company would like wonder if the waste can also has a legitimacy in a museum or an art gallery. Even if we want to get rid of waste, we may wonder if we could also question what makes a piece of art today and if art may stay socially engaged.
