Event Description : Talk about IGNCA’s Audio-Visual Cultural Archives by Dr. Utpal K Banerjee, Senior Tagore Research Scholar at IGNCA.

IGNCA is a treasure trove of cultural artifacts including a rich repository of video documentaries. In the recent past envisioned a new kind of Internet-based audio-visual 
cultural archive that consists of audio-visual material stored in IGNCA. According a project was undertaken. The presentation seeks to give a brief overview of the project, as part of 
the Kalasampada Digital Library. It proposes to discuss the salient features of the audio-visual archive that aims at ensuring Preservation, Documentation, Connectivity and wide 
Dissemination. The presentation will focus on Meta-data management and its myriad components including Key-Words, Other Descriptive Details, Dublincore Meta-data Elements 
Set, Library of Congress Subject Holdings, Thesaurus, etc. The presentation will be followed by a hands-on demonstration of the Audio-Visual Archives, maintained by the CIL Unit.

About The Speaker: Dr Utpal K Banerjee is presently associated with IGNCA as Tagore Research Scholar. His career is both varied and prolific. He has been an adviser on management and information technology for over thirty years and has an abiding interest in Indian art and culture. He was National Project Director for the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) for a UNDP 

project on 'Multimedia Database for Art and Culture Documentation and Computerisation'. His comprehensive book, Indian Performing Arts, has gone into several editions and another, Bengali Theatre: 200 Years, has been published by the Publications Division, Government of India. His most recent works include Tagore’s Dance Drama OmnibusTheatre in South Asia: Frontiers of India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Overseas.His articles appear regularly in India Perspective, Indian Horizons and The Pioneer.
