Event Description :  The Delhi-based Centre for Mohiniyattam, established and nurtured by its Founder-Director Padmashri Awardee and Guru Smt Bharati Shivaji will be presenting ‘Sita-Ram Pariney’, a dance-drama inspired by one of the eternal episodes from the epic Ramayana.
Inspired by the 16th century Indian poet Tulsidas' Ramcharitmanas, The unique choreographic work, a creation of Smt Bharati Shivaji and assisted by her artistically endowed prime disciple Smt Vijayalakshmi will eloquently describe through Mohiniyattam the first meeting of Rama & Sita in the Pushpa Vatika, their instant attraction to each other, followed by the Swayamvar where Ram breaks the bow and wins Sita as bride, and then the wedding, which is celebrated with great pomp and gaiety.
Perhaps, it is the first attempt of its kind in presenting Sita-Ram Pariney in the Mohiniyattam idiom. It has been specially choreographed to incorporate and highlight the regional musical style popularly sung in North India. The bhakti element and the musical rendering perfectly underlines the quintessential spirit of Mohiniyattam, which invokes the feminine mystique and grace, yet is imminently immersed in the Bhakti tradition, down the ages.
Over 3 decades of selfless dedication and experience acquired by Smt Bharati Shivaji, will be visible as the dance-drama unfolds. She is one who has done extensive research to link the various folk traditions and local flavours of art and creativity with the dance form she epitomizes. The result has been unique presentations that have been further accentuated with the fluid, emotive, sensuous movements of this lyrical dance. You will get to see more dimension of creativity in this I hr 15 mins, mega production consisting of 17 dancers.
We would be happy if you would come to cover and watch this production by Centre for Mohiniyattam, a pioneering art institute that focuses on the dance of the divine enchantress (Mohini) from the land of myths, temples, palm trees and seashores-Kerala.
