LALITARPAN FESTIVAL 2013
This year too, the Festival will be held on 17th and 18th September 2013 at the Stein Auditorium of the India Habitat Centre at 7.00pm. The artistes being featured this year are as follows:
17th Sept 2013:
Pt Shrinivas Joshi from Pune (son & disciple of late Pt Bhimsen Joshi): Hindustani vocal
Deepak Maharaj (son& disciple of Pt Birju Maharaj): Kathak
Both the artistes on the 17th of September have made their niche in their respective styles of art. Shrinivas Joshi is a worthy son of his father, upholding the tradition of Kirana gharana. He has been acclaimed by critics as an ‘original vocalist with an original voice’ and ‘an artiste in his own league’ with a rich portrayal of emotions. Deepak Maharaj is a torchbearer of the illustrious Kalka-Bindadin Gharana Kathak tradition.
18th Sept 2013:
Dr. Kumud Diwan: Thumri (benaras ang)
Vyjayanthi Kashi from Bangalore: Kuchipudi.
Both the artistes on the 18th of September are very senior artistes who have made their niche in their respective styles of art. While Dr. Kumud Diwan is a versatile acclaimed Thumri artiste of the country whose voice has the rare timbre reminiscent of the late Siddheshwari Devi and Rasoolan Bai of Banaras and her charming persona that makes her a delightful performer, Vyjayanthi Kashi, besides being a reputed senior artiste of our country, is a dance-bridge between the pristine classical style of Kuchipudi and a more contemporary dance aesthetic. She is also the Chairperson of Karnataka Sangeet Natak Akademi.
